AT&T Uverse Gig Speed Year in Review – 2018

So, I’ve had this service for 18m or so. If you hardware supports the speed, i.e., is new, then you can enjoy the benefits of crazy fast downloads. I tested via my office VPN and could download a 500Meg file in about 3 minutes where I showed 26 down / 35 up. When I downloaded that same 500Meg (non-cached) it seemed like less than 1s, where I showed 575 down / 876 up.  If you don’t have updated NIC/OS/etc, then you won’t get the benefits of Gig speed. Not sure that’s in the advertisement.

For 2018 the chart looks like:

The 2018 numbers are:

Down (Mb/s) Up (Mb/s)
145.049 93.672

Average Download Speed increased 133.5% and Upload Speed increased 106.5%.

And recall the 2017 chart looked like:

And the 2017 numbers were:

Down (Mb/s) Up (Mb/s)
62.125 45.369

AT&T Uverse // December 2018 Speed Report

Things are starting to look consistent, but still not over 300M d/l, or 150M u/l. I pretty sure it’s related to the Raspberry Pi 3 I have and the USB/NIC attached thereto. Now on to the stats… Below you see a chart of the upload/download (red/blue, respectively) speeds for the month of December 2018:

Looks like AT&T did something around Nov 14 so that now my UP load speed never exceeds 150 MBps.  See, here.

December 2018 Averages:

18DEC Ping (ms) Down (Mb/s) Up (Mb/s)

AT&T Uverse // November 2018 Speed Report

Things are starting to look consistent, but still not over 300M d/l, or 150M u/l. I think it’s related to the Raspberry Pi 3 I have and the USB/NIC attached thereto. I tried my work Lenovo Thinkpad that had rates of 575 Mbps down & 876 Mbps up:

AT&T Uverse // October 2018 Speed Report

Things are starting to look consistent, but still not over 300M d/l, or 150M u/l.  Could it be my NIC, driver, OS or something else? Don’t know and this is TBD. On Oct 15 there was a 12 hour outage of AT&T caused by a lighting strike (article here).

Now on to the stats… Below you see a chart of the upload/download (red/blue, respectively) speeds for the month of October 2018:

AT&T Uverse // September 2018 Speed Report

Looks like something is keeping me at 300 and then throttling back to 100 max download speeds. Still not sure if this is my set-up or AT&T’s. I am not changing anything, but can see AT&T tweaking with stuff. TBD.

Now on to the stats… Below you see a chart of the upload/download (red/blue, respectively) speeds for the month of September 2018:

September 2018 Averages:
